Does Late Or Early Ovulation Influence My Ability to Get Pregnant Or My Baby’s Gender? My Opinion
I recently started getting this question more and more. Some women who write to me take my advice on using ovulation predictors to make sure you know exactly when you ovulate. Many of these same women are somewhat surprised to find that even though they ovulate, it happens much earlier or much later than the time frame they always assumed.
For example, some women find that they actually ovulate much earlier than halfway through their cycle and I actually had a woman tell me that she got a positive as late as day 24. I also had someone tell me that she got positive. as early as day 7. These women will often wonder if being early or late affects their fertility or will affect the gender of their baby. They want to know if they need to do anything different to make sure they get pregnant with the gender they want. I will discuss these concerns in the following article.
Healthy Ovulation and Fertility Plus Relationship with a Healthy Partner Equals Pregnancy (No Matter When It Happens:) The basic formula for getting pregnant is to conceive on or around your fertile window or ovulation. As long as this happens (assuming there are no medical issues or problems with you and your partner), you should eventually get pregnant.
Some women worry that early or late ovulation means that there is a problem with their fertility. In my experience this is usually not true. I personally ovulate very late in my cycle (sometimes as late as day 21 or even later) and I am definitely a mother with successful conceptions and pregnancies. A woman’s ovulation day can vary from month to month for many reasons, many of which are beyond her control. There is no “right” or “best” day for this. And, the actual calendar day this happens is usually no indication of how successful you will be with conception.
As long as you can successfully fertilize a healthy egg with healthy sperm in the right context – no matter when this happens for your body – then you should eventually be successful. Take extra care to determine what is the right time for your unique body. Everyone is truly different and just because your experience is different doesn’t mean it’s wrong.
Does late or early ovulation affect the gender of your baby?: Many people who ask this question are really confusing the variables. They may have heard that intercourse before ovulation is good for baby girls, but intercourse after ovulation is good for men. For the most part, this is true (although there are other variables that are used such as acidity and gender positions.)
But, the early or late date when ovulation occurs does not really affect this equation. The two variables you need to be aware of are related to the time you ovulated (which means the time you got a positive test.) This is the variable that needs to be addressed. The concern is not when the positive reading occurred or what the calendar said when it occurred. The timing of your relationship is much more important than the timing of your efforts.
I hope this article has shown you that as long as you and your partner are healthy, you don’t have to worry if you get a positive reading sooner or later than you thought you might. The actual date is not as important as getting that positive reading. And there are countless moms out there who have successfully conceived during the last or earlier ovulation cycle. The plan should be the same. Focus on communicating at the appropriate time, with appropriate acidity, and using appropriate positions. The rest should fall into place.
