The Myth About Soy – Is Soy Making You Fat?

Did you know that you can poison your body with high levels of toxins produced by too much soy in your diet? Research has shown that a soy-based diet at any age can lead to thyroid dysfunction, which often leads to heart problems and excess fat. Could this explain the dramatic increase in obesity today?

Do you suffer from obesity or overweight? If you eat a diet rich in soy, you could be seriously affecting your health, not to mention sabotaging your weight loss goals.

Most people are unaware of the many powerful chemical toxins contained in soy. One of them is phytic acid, also called phytates. These acids deprive the body of essential minerals such as calcium, magnesium, iron and especially zinc. Unfortunately, soy is very resistant to phytate reduction techniques, such as slow cooking, so removing this toxin is not impossible.

Soy also contains powerful enzyme inhibitors. These inhibitors block the uptake of trypsin and other enzymes that the body needs to digest proteins, causing serious stomach distress, reduced protein digestion and can cause chronic deficiencies in amino acid absorption.

Because of the way soy is made and processed today (quick and cheap), it doesn’t matter what kind of products you buy, organic or not. They all carry high levels of toxins, and should not be eaten, or only very sparingly, as they do in Asian cultures. Contrary to popular belief, soy products have never been a staple food in Asian countries. Historically, soybeans were used by the poor during times of severe food shortages, and only then were soybeans carefully prepared to eliminate soy toxins.

The vegetarian diet in the United States today contains too much soy, which Asians typically consume; they usually use small portions of soy to complete their meals. A standard Asian diet consists of natural products, very low-fat meat, lots of vegetables and more fish. Their diets are also low in chemicals and toxins, because they eat far less processed food (canned, jarred, pickled, frozen).

So, if you think soy will protect you and your children from obesity, think again. These claims come straight from the soy industry that has led us all to believe in its “health food” properties. It really doesn’t make sense, especially when we know that farmers feed soy to animals to fatten them up quickly for slaughter.

Soy also contains a lot of isoflavones (phytoestrogens), which actually interfere with the thyroid’s ability to make thyroid hormones, which can lead to weight gain, fatigue, and depression. A food rich in soy is also rich in isoflavones, and it doesn’t take much. Just one glass of soy milk a day, said to contain between 30-45 milligrams, is enough to suppress thyroid function. And with a weak thyroid, you will find it harder and harder to lose weight at all.

It is the isoflavones in soy that protect us from heart disease, cancer, osteoporosis and menopause discomfort. Not like that.

But the most alarming and very sad effect of eating soy comes to our babies. Breastfeeding is best when everyone knows; Mothers today think they are doing their newborns a service by giving them soy formula instead of traditional milk. In fact, it is harming our children.

Infants exclusively fed soy formula have 13,000 to 22,000 times more estrogen compounds in their blood than infants fed milk formula, which is at least five birth control pills per day. Premature growth in girls has been linked to soy formula use, as has prematurity in boys.

Mothers who eat soy during pregnancy also put their babies at risk because the isoflavones swim right through the placenta. This can worsen the hormonal balance, especially in the first three months, when male fetuses are at an important stage of development and definitely need to have enough testosterone. Other problems associated with soy formula-fed babies of both genders include extreme emotional behavior, depression, asthma, immune system problems, pituitary deficiency, thyroid disorders and irritable bowel syndrome.

In general, there are a growing number of other health problems that may be associated with soy foods, including: bladder, prostate, colorectal, thyroid, and breast cancer; precancerous lesions; heart disease; diabetes 2; malnutrition; hard growth; flatulence pancreatic problems; low libido: early puberty; anemia zinc deficiency; osteoporosis; intestinal damage; mal-absorption syndrome and leaky gut; kidney stones; allergy; infant mortality; failure of the defense system; thyroid disease – and the list goes on.

The soybean industry is a powerful multi-billion dollar industry. And the PR and financing of advertising it as a “health food” is actually causing a “health crisis”. Soy is dangerous – for you, and especially your children. Don’t fall for their marketing tricks.
